What it does

Verify trade routes against comprehensive embargo lists. Embargoes restrict or prohibit trade with specific countries, regions, or entities. POTAL checks both comprehensive embargoes (all trade blocked) and sectoral sanctions (specific industries restricted).

How to use it

Screen the destination

POST /api/v1/screening with the destination country to check embargo status.

Review embargo result

The embargo field shows whether the country is embargoed and which programs apply.

Check sectoral sanctions

Some embargoes only affect specific sectors (energy, finance, defense).

Combine with party screening

Always screen both the country and the specific parties involved in the transaction.
